Jason Hopkins (aka abhominal) is a traditionally trained artist based in London, UK. His art practice has focussed upon digital techniques since the early 2000s. Adopting 3D software to create surreal, bio-geometric, semi-figurative abstractions, abhominal emerged as a weblog in 2006 – exploring concepts of genetic engineering and the potential implications of science and technology on the human species as we journey towards a posthuman future.Computer algorithms became a key tool in creating these reconfigurations of the human form, and AI image generation was a logical digital medium to explore and develop these concepts further. It is perhaps ironic that AI may challenge our understanding of what it means to be human more profoundly in a single decade than genetic engineering has over several.abhominal (ab “away from” + hominis “man”) encapsulates a narrative about the future of our species and the entropy of the human condition.
