Contemporary Print ArtistDaniel Catt is a contemporary print artist who uses computer code to create artworks for drawing machines, traditional prints, and occasionally screen-based works. His practice focuses on generating multiple automated compositions through code. Acting as both instigator and curator, he selects pieces from these automated processes to refine or designate as final artworks, while code, technology, and the drawing machine—with its pens and ink—take on the role of creator.Driven by a desire to streamline the laborious aspects of studio administration, Daniel has developed custom tools and integrated AI into his workflow. These tools have organically expanded into his artistic practice, with the drawing machine acting as an extension of his creative process, both in crafting and documenting art.Currently, Daniel is engaged in a year-long Arts-Based Research project exploring interactions between code, AI, drawing machines, and documentation. This research focuses on synthesized handwriting, AI-assisted journaling, and the systems involved in running an art studio. The primary outputs will be documentation of the research, alongside drawing machine, print, and screen-based artworks as secondary outcomes.
