Maria Fynsk Norup is a self-taught visual artist based in the Danish island of Ærø. Using photography and videography as her primary media, her artistic practice navigates the space between the autobiographical and the conceptual, weaving visual narratives that draw from her own life and the world around her. While deeply personal, her work poetically explores universal themes such as vulnerability, trauma, dreams, and raw emotions, as well as the search for belonging and our profound connection to nature.Enhanced by her studies of classic and evolutionary botany from the Natural History Museum of Denmark and The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, London, her love for the natural world profoundly informs her artistic expression. Intertwined as symbols, stages, or becoming the focus objects themselves, the surrounding landscape has become an important presence alongside the powerful use of her own body to explore and express the human condition.Her search for ways to convey emotions and memories often turn into conversations with the wilderness, allowing curiosity and chance to guide her creative process towards moments of release and discovery.In recent years, Maria has received multiple international awards and nominations, including recognition from the British Journal of Photography, and has exhibited widely across the world.
