What is a carnival, if not life compressed into neon, motion, and noise?
Carnivals dazzle and deceive.Their lights promise magic, their shadows conceal tricks. Their joy is wild, unfiltered, and unstable — always on the verge of collapse. It is this chaotic tension that makes them the perfect stage for exploring what Buddhist thought calls the eight worldly dharmas: pleasure and pain, praise and blame, gain and loss, fame and disgrace.
In Carnival Dharmas, curator Absurdeity invites a carefully selected group of digital artists to dive into this emotional rollercoaster. Each was challenged to not simply reflect one emotional state, but to merge a full dharma pair within the context of carnival — that electric, unstable place where opposites blur into one experience.
The result is a phantasmagoria of contrasts: glitchy joyrides, poetic anxiety, saccharine hallucinations, and spiritual slapstick. Works that shimmer with fame while rotting with self-doubt. Scenes of bliss interrupted by vertigo. Visions of winning that flicker into loss.
